Marcus Tullius Cicero A home without books is a body without soul.

Marcus Tullius Cicero Natural ability without education has more often raised a man to glory and virtue than education without natural ability.

Thomas Jefferson 1782. (Notes on the State of Virginia) "Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories. And to render them safe, their minds must be improved to a certain degree.

Thomas Jefferson 1816 January 6. (to Charles Yancey) "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilisation, it expects what never was and never will be."

Poor

Very often we hear of new taxes, more taxes on the rich, that is how in the US they sold the income tax. Just a few percent on the rich, and now it is how much on everyone? Second plank of the communist manifesto, is a heavy and progressive income tax. And how was communism sold, oh to help the poor, just like in North Korea? Think of communism and you think of long waits, long queues, shortages, and a state that dictates how the poor live, while the elite have what all elites have. Yet still folks delude themselves that if we just taxed the rich a bit more everything would be great, they can not get it into their heads that these taxes are promoted by the ultra rich, but why? Why would the rich want taxes on the rich? That is crazy isn't it, just like the Bolsheviks were funded by bankers, but hey the fifth plank of the communist manifesto is a central bank, so go figure!

So what happens when you tax the rich more? Well it reduces competition, because some of the rich are affected in a negative way, this helps the ultra rich, they don't like competitors. Just think why are the poor, poor? Or why are the rich the ones with the wealth? What happens when the rich are taxed more? "Sorry folks, no payrise this year!" Or maybe, "We are streamlining your department." (Job pruning exercises!) Or maybe, "We have decided we can make this cheaper elsewhere, this site is now closing."

There is nothing wrong with people being wealthy, just think of clever inovative folks like Henry Ford or Thomas Eddison. What is wrong, is when folks become wealthy by cheating, as the Bankers do, by lending money they don't have. Why should hard working folks loose their homes because they can't pay the mortgage because the bankers caused a recession, their job has been shipped abroad by big corporations, and they can't pay back money that was not a loan, but created out of thin air. If they don't pay it back, what have the bankers lost, nothing, they never had it to lend in the first place.

Most British workers struggle for cash just 17 days after monthly payday
