DAVID L NIGHTINGALE
Mysteries & Thrillers

Slugs are interesting creatures, they can operate at a lower temperature than snails, so are active for more of the year. They are often seen in the open, where you would think they would fall prey to birds, so you wonder if they are not very tasty. Though I did hear a tale of a lady in times past, who during famine, had well fed children, it turned out that she was boiling slugs and serving this delicacy! Warning this can be hazardous, even if the slugs were not poisonous, it is well know that edible snails can eat plants which are poisonous to us, and the toxins can remain in the snail. Thus snails must be kept on a diet of non toxic plants prior to consumption. Not that I would personally recommend eating slugs or snails, we are warned not to do this:

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
Leviticus 11:41
And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten.

Ecclesiastes 7:12
For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.
